About LWML

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League is to assist each woman of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.

2011-2013 Primary Targets

GROWING in the Lord. Women of today find guidance for their lives, encouragement for their walk, and inspiration for joyful service through intentional study of the Word.

VALUING all women. Women of all ages, stages of life, races, locations, and cultures are welcomed, mentored, and encouraged to be active partners in the shared mission of LWML.

LIVING the mission. As the "Face of LWML," women are engaged in opportunities to use their gifts to impact the world for Christ in their daily lives.

Altar Guild

The service of the Altar Guild volunteers is to make sure that the place of worship is maintained and set up for the times and seasons of the Church Year.  They care for the paraments and linens, making sure they are put out, cleaned, and stored appropriately.  They order, clean, and put away the sacramental vessels and linens, and care for the vestments.  They make certain that all the preparations are made for each service and that whatever needs to be done after the service is taken care of.  They also order supplies. (Maxwell, Lee A., The Altar Guild Manual: Lutheran Service Book Edition, 2008). The Altar Guild also makes sure there are flowers on the altar for each service.
